Tri-boughs of the boundless realms of cosmos,
Begin to cast spells on each other.
My arms extend and with these magicians
and do diffuse,
While my central component-
my soul,
Cannot refuse. Cannot refuse
its understanding of immortality.
Untouched. Pristine. White-
Imitating infinity...

THE SPEECH

17.6.13: My speech as the Secretary General, MCGSMUN '13

My warmest welcome to everyone present under this roof, this evening. Thank you all for being here.

I wish to question the fundamental.

Yes, I wish to begin my speech by scratching the surface of an itching spot, instead of taking the high road and quoting yet another famous personality, with a subtle hope that what I say INSTEAD is worth getting quoted in many more speeches to come.

What is the exact purpose of this very speech that I am making at the moment? What exactly is the drive that pushes and persuades us to cross international borders as well as boundaries of ethnicity, culture, age and experience to assemble in august gatherings such as this? The answer is not Model United Nations. Model United Nations is in fact, the question to the fact of the matter.

And the fact of the matter is that we are at present in a dark-dark room. So dark that it almost seems naïve when someone simply says ‘turn on the light’, because the sad truth is that we are trapped inside a pitch dark room which we cannot light up because we don’t know where the switch is. Akin to this, I would now pose another question: when one is unsure of everything else in the universe, what is the ONE EXCEPTION that one can be sure of? It is, indeed, none other than oneself. There is the switch! That is exactly “WHERE THE LIGHT IS!”

It is absolutely my great privilege, as the Secretary General to announce the commencement of the MCGSMUN 2013. This year, in addition to the five committees, we also have a specialized committee, encouraged by the brilliant success of our very first MCGSMUN, last year. We are ‘Going Green’ by Reducing, Reusing and Recycling and hope you join us in our efforts too. On behalf of the Secretariat body, I would wish you all the very best of luck for an extremely rewarding experience!

And while I know that eventually , we all will move on with our daily life, I hope that when you think of MCGSMUN 2013 or  WHEN YOU DECIDE TO SIMPLY BE BETTER, you picture me saying this:

I have faith in good .Today, for every Ayman Al Zawahiri, there is a Malala Yousafzai, for every Lashkar ae Toiba, there is a United Nations, for every prediction of an apocalypse, there is a discovery of new animal specie, for every abused child, there are 10 others receiving education, for every person who claims that we are dying, there’s… hello?? I’m alive, you are alive, WE ARE LIVING!  And do remember, for every one of them, there’s always one of us!

Thank you very much.
